Elevating Everyday Luxury: A Spa-Inspired Primary Suite Transformation in Bridle Trails, Bellevue

In the heart of the Bridle Trails neighborhood in Bellevue, Washington, we recently completed a primary suite transformation that turned a dated 1990s bathroom into a serene, spa-inspired retreat.

While the original space had incredible potential: with 10-foot ceilings, generous square footage, and beautiful natural light, the design no longer matched the lifestyle or aesthetic of the homeowners. Our goal was to preserve the openness and architectural volume of the room while creating a space that felt luxurious, calming, and timeless.

Reimagining the Bathroom Layout

The original bathroom featured a large alcove bathtub and a traditional built-in vanity typical of homes built in the 1990s. Although functional, these elements visually weighed down the space and didn’t reflect the clean, elevated atmosphere the homeowners envisioned.

We began by removing the outdated fixtures and completely reimagining the material palette and focal points of the room. Through detailed 3D renderings, we were able to explore spatial possibilities, refine proportions, and help the homeowners visualize the transformation before construction began—ensuring every design decision felt intentional and aligned.

The entire space was then wrapped in large-format polished porcelain slab, creating a seamless and highly reflective finish that enhances the natural light already flooding the space. The continuous stone-like surface eliminates grout lines and visually expands the room, giving it the feeling of a luxury spa environment.

A Floating Vanity That Glows

One of the most striking design elements in the new bathroom is the custom floating stone vanity.

Clad in the same stunning porcelain slab as the surrounding walls, the vanity appears to effortlessly float above the floor. Hidden LED lighting beneath the cabinetry provides a soft ambient glow in the evening, adding warmth and dimension while reinforcing the spa-like atmosphere.

The lighting design throughout the bathroom was carefully considered to ensure the space feels just as beautiful at night as it does during the day.

Sculptural Soaking Tub and Illuminated Niches

With the alcove tub removed, we introduced a stand-alone soaking tub that acts as a sculptural centerpiece in the room.

Next to the tub, we designed a custom built-in niche with integrated lighting, allowing the homeowners to display bath essentials while adding another layer of soft illumination. These subtle lighting details elevate the experience of the room and create a calming environment perfect for unwinding.

Updating the Existing Fireplace

One unique feature of the original bathroom was a dual-sided fireplace, an unexpected but wonderful element to incorporate.

Rather than removing it, we gave the fireplace a refined facelift by finishing it in the same polished porcelain slab used throughout the room. This update allowed the fireplace to feel fully integrated into the new design, turning it into another luxurious focal point rather than a dated remnant from the original space.

The Ultimate Shower Experience

The true showstopper of the bathroom is the fully customized shower system. Designed for both functionality and indulgence, the shower includes:

  • Dual shower systems

  • A steam shower

  • A large rain shower head

  • Integrated body sprayers

  • Elegant brass plumbing fixtures throughout

The combination of warm brass finishes against the polished porcelain surfaces creates a balance of modern sophistication and timeless luxury.

A Private Cedar Sauna Retreat

Just steps away from the shower is one of the homeowners’ favorite features: a custom-built cedar sauna.

Beyond its beautiful craftsmanship, the sauna introduces a sensory element to the space. The natural cedar aroma creates a grounding, calming environment that truly makes the suite feel like a personal wellness retreat at home.

A True At-Home Retreat

This Bridle Trails remodel is a perfect example of how thoughtful design, carefully selected materials, and layered lighting can transform an already spacious room into something extraordinary.

What was once a typical 1990s bathroom is now a modern spa sanctuary, complete with steam shower, sauna, soaking tub, and a fully reimagined primary suite. It’s the kind of space designed not just for daily routines—but for rest, relaxation, and restoration.
