This Woodinville remodel was a fun one-and honestly, one of those projects that reminds us why we love being a Woodinville interior designer.
Our clients live in Canterwood Estates in a 1980s home they’ve thoughtfully updated over the years. But with two growing kids and a busy family lifestyle, they were ready to stop piecing things together and finally elevate the home as a whole. The goal? Spaces that felt warmer, more intentional, and a little more grown-up, without losing comfort or personality.
A Staircase That Instantly Changed Everything
We kicked things off right in the entryway. The existing staircase was carpeted, dated, and wrapped in classic 1980s honey oak that had been painted during a previous remodel, ready for retirement.
We removed the carpet and original stair treads entirely and rebuilt the staircase with a more transitional feel, using iron balusters and a white oak handrail that seamlessly ties into the existing hardwood floors. It’s one of those changes that instantly makes the entire home feel refreshed the moment you walk in.

Turning the Formal Living Room into an Adult Lounge
Next up: the formal living room. This space was ready for a new identity; less “formal sitting room,” more adult lounge.
Our clients wanted a place to relax with a glass of wine, entertain friends, and yes…watch TV. We leaned into warmth and mood by adding custom wall paneling throughout both the living room and dining room, then color drenched the space in a rich, moody green that completely transformed the vibe.
Brass wall sconces add layered lighting, while custom window treatments soften the space. The furniture strikes that perfect balance of timeless and cozy, using oversized velvet swivel chairs with soft lines that invite you to stay awhile.
And the real showstopper? A hand-blown glass chandelier floating above from the vaulted ceiling. We kept the ceiling white to emphasize the height and keep the space feeling light and airy.

Dining Room Drama (the Good Kind)
The dining room carries the moody lounge vibe straight through, creating a cozy, candlelit feel perfect for hosting. We paired the client’s existing oak dining table with beautiful leather-wrapped dining chairs for warmth and texture.
A brass chandelier ties back to the sconces and adds just the right amount of glow. This room absolutely comes alive at night.

Keeping the Kitchen Light and Bright
To balance out the darker spaces, the kitchen was kept light, bright, and airy. Updated bar stools add personality while keeping things casual and family-friendly, perfect for homework, snacks, and quick meals between activities.

A Family Room That Took a Risk (and Nailed It)
The family room might be our favorite. Our client was ready to have some fun, and we fully leaned in. We wrapped the walls in a soft flannel wallpaper with a subtle plaid pattern; cozy, unexpected, and just the right amount of bold. The vibe feels elevated but relaxed, with a bit of that Ralph Lauren Home energy.
An oversized white sectional anchors the room (aka the kids’ favorite spot), while caramel reclining chairs, antler décor, and a tufted ottoman keep everything feeling layered and cohesive. Wool pillows and soft throws seal the deal and make this space irresistibly comfortable.

An Office Designed for Real Life
This home office works hard for four people. With his and hers desks plus a homework zone for the kids, function was just as important as style.
We warmed the space with linen wallpaper, a brass light fixture, and styled shelves filled with found objects that reflect both personalities. A custom calendar system for each child keeps schedules organized without cluttering the space, proof that practical can still be beautiful.

The Final Takeaway
This Woodinville remodel is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can evolve alongside a family. The home now feels layered, cohesive, and elevated, while still being comfortable, playful, and totally livable.
From moody adult spaces to cozy family hangouts, every room was designed with intention. And as a Woodinville interior designer, projects like this, where function meets personality, are exactly what we love most.
Our clients love their spaces so much, they recently welcomed us back to design the kid’s bedrooms…can’t wait to share as these additional spaces come to life!
